Hayden previews Ducati debut and 2009 season in-depth

Moving to Marlboro Ducati for the 2009 season Nicky Hayden is buzzing with excitement about the chance to recapture his former competitiveness with his new team.
Understandably enthusiastic about his headline-grabbing move to the factory Ducati team for the forthcoming season the 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden was in good spirits when he spoke to motogp.com about the new chapter in his career.
With time for an in-depth interview at the annual Ducati Wrooom pre-season get together Hayden thanked the Italian company for giving him a chance to ride alongside his successor as MotoGP title winner, Casey Stoner, but also praised Honda for the support they have shown him over the years – despite some momentary ill-feeling in the Repsol Honda pit-box last season.
Hayden singled out Ducati´s MotoGP Project Director Livio Suppo for special thanks, stating, `They have shown a lot of faith in me, the people at Marlboro and everybody at Ducati, especially Livio. He pushed hard to get me in this team and I am very grateful. So I don´t want to make them look silly, I want to make them look smart and do a good job.´
On his departure from Honda he added, `Things did get a little bit sore there last year with the team, but in the end I did leave Honda on good terms and I am proud of that after nine years with them. In particular the people at American Honda and I am thankful to my mechanics, because everybody on my side of the garage worked really hard for me.´
Much has been made of Hayden´s good friendship with new colleague Stoner with whom he anticipates a good working relationship. The American commented on working with Stoner, `In this sport you have to row your own boat. We will go our separate ways on a lot of settings, but now with limited test time and things we are doing to try and save budget I think it is better to work together. Sure we will want to beat each other and to beat Casey here would be a big feeling.´
`At the moment he is hurt and can´t test, though I am sure through the year I will be able to bounce some ideas off him to make a stronger team.´
Giving his opinion on the Desmosedici Hayden is pleased with what he has experienced of the GP9 so far, although he acknowledges that previous incarnations of the bike have been hard to handle for some of his Ducati predecessors.
`The bike is amazing, the engine is really strong, the front end has a great feeling and it is very stable on the fast corners,´ he enthused, before admitting, `It is not an easy bike, I´m not going to lie, it is quite challenging. But this sport is not easy! I quite like the bike and I already realise that I need to be going faster on it. There have been some great riders who have struggled with it and to be honest I was nervous before I signed that contract, I was thinking this could be really good or it could have been a disaster. So far it has gone better than I expected.´

Dorna CEO Ezpeleta on Kawasaki withdrawal

Following Kawasaki´s announcement, confirming that the Japanese manufacturer would suspend its factory MotoGP activity, Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has revealed that a Kawasaki privateer project is under consideration.
Prior to Kawasaki´s announcement regarding their withdrawal from MotoGP, Carmelo Ezpeleta, the CEO of MotoGP Rights Holders Dorna Sports, met with representatives of the Japanese factory to acknowledge their decision and discuss the possibility of having Kawasaki machinery run by a privateer team.
`First of all, I would like to clarify the fact that what Kawasaki has suspended is its MotoGP racing activities through its factory team,´ stressed Mr Ezpeleta.
`We had a meeting in Osaka on Thursday (8th January) where Kawasaki explained their problems and the difficulties they had with continuing as a factory team,´ Mr Ezpeleta continued. `Under these circumstances we agreed to cooperate collectively, in order to find a possible solution to their problems which may allow them to continue as a privateer team.´
Kawasaki made their MotoGP debut in 2003 after a string of wildcard entries in the last races of the 2002 season. Since then the Akashi-based factory has secured three podium finishes, with Olivier Jacque second in China in 2005, Shinya Nakano also securing second in Holland the following year and finally in 2007, with Randy de Puniet taking his maiden MotoGP podium with second at Motegi.
Prior to their MotoGP effort, the Japanese factory had participated in the premier category of World Championship competition in two separate periods, firstly from 1970 to 1975, when Ginger Molloy finished runner-up in their first season. Dave Simmonds took victory at Jarama one year later to finish the series in fourth place overall, whilst Mick Grant clinched the Tourist Trophy in 1975.
The second chapter of Kawasaki´s 500cc experience came in a two-year period at the start of the 1980s. Kork Ballington was unable to add to their catalogue of victories but he did take two third place finishes in 1981.

El Salvador - A Great Surfing Destination

In the heart of the Americas is the small country of El Salvador. Recently, more and more it is gaining reputation as a world class surfing spot and the best thing is that it is easily accessible - only a 5 hour trip from New York and there are daily scheduled flights from all major airports in the United States.
There are so many things that make the beaches of El Salvador great for surfing... the un-crowded beaches, great weather, friendly helpful locals and of course great long barrels!
Surfing in El Salvador is best between March and October, during January and February the waves are smaller but still great.
El Salvador's surfing areas are divided into 2 regions: La Libertad and "The Wild East".
La Libertad
In the department of La Libertad are located some of the most spectacular beaches and is located only about 45 minutes from the airport. It has been dubbed "the surf capital of El Salvador", and has been compared to "Rincon" in California by many surfers. With a relaxed and laid back atmosphere, this is the choice of many. The area is well developed with restaurants, hotels and a surf board repair shop all along the beach.
There are so many great surfing spots, but I here will mention 2 of the most popular ones.
El Sunzal is probably the most popular spot of all for its bigger beach break and powerful waves. It best to go during the week as it can get a bit crowded on weekends, many locals also come here.
Punta Roca is among the top right point breaks in the world, these waves are for experienced surfers. This break gets hollow giving surfers awesome long barrels.
The Wild East
Named The Wild East because this area is less developed, there is not a lot of infrastructure in place so some of the most incredible surfing spots in this region are not easily accessible - which means of course less crowded beaches. Surfing tour companies do offer tours to these areas and of course they are locals who know the area well.
This region encompasses the East side of El Salvador and is located about 3 hours from San Salvador. These are 2 of the most well known surfing spots in this region.
Punta Mango is located in the department of La Unión and is accessible only by boat. This right point break is great for experienced surfers with wave lengths of 100 - 400m.
Las Flores is located in the department of San Miguel and it's great for surfers of all levels. This is a fast right point break with wave lengths of 50 - 100m. This spot is accessible only on 4x4.
El Salvador's waves are a must try if you like surfing, with its consistent right point breaks and great waves over 300 days of the year, surfing is a go any time of the year! And, you'll be pleased to find that the locals really appreciate your visit and will go to great lengths to ensure you enjoy your stay.
